    • Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f) for the High Brilliance X-Ray Spectroscopy
      (ESRF Beamline ID26)

      Flyer

ID26 is dedicated to X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. We study the electronic structure and local coordination in systems that are relevant in the applied sciences (materials science, coordination chemistry, (bio)catalysis, mineralogy and geology…). The beamline hosts unique instrumentation for advanced X-ray spectroscopies and thus provides state-of-the-art research possibilities. We also collaborate with many theory groups that develop codes for electronic structure calculations for X-ray spectroscopies. (For further information about the instrument please consult http://www.esrf.fr/UsersAndScience/Experiments/ElectStructMagn/ID26/). You will be encouraged and supported to develop your own research, which should exploit the exceptional beamline capabilities. You will initiate and participate in collaborative research programmes with universities and research centres.
You must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry or a related field. Very good skills in instrumentation (e.g. X-ray instrumentation, in-situ cells, spectroscopy instrumentation …) and previous research related to electronic structure analysis are essential.
The working language of the ESRF is English. Further information on the post can be obtained from Dr. Pieter Glatzel (tel.: +33 (0)4 76 88 2968, email: ). For further information on employment terms and conditions, please refer to http://www.esrf.fr/Jobs/Conditions. The ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from disabled persons.
Contract of 18 months, renewable for a further 6 to 18 month period. Only candidates holding a Ph.D. obtained less than 3 years ago are eligible for Post-doctoral positions.
If you are interested in this position, please apply on-line at this address: http://www.esrf.fr/Jobs.

    • Postdoctoral Position in Studies of Materials in Extreme Environments

The Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate position. As a participant in the Center for Energy Frontier Research in Extreme Environments (EFree), the selected candidate will collaborate with Prof. Robert Mayanovic and other scientists in the center to investigate the physical and chemical properties of primarily nanophase materials in extreme environments. The candidate will contribute to studies of materials at the atomic to micrometer scale under extremes of temperature, pressure, and in supercritical aqueous fluids. Extensive use of synchrotron techniques such as x-ray absorption (XAS), x-ray diffraction and x-ray scattering (SAXS) will be used in this line of research. Knowledge of synchrotron x-ray techniques for the measurement and analyses of materials is desired. EFree is a nation-wide DOE-funded center involved in fundamental research on materials in extreme environments that is vital to addressing twenty-first century energy needs. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations. Employment will require a criminal background check at university expense.
For required qualifications and application procedures, go to https://jobs.missouristate.edu or contact .
The first date of consideration is June 17, 2013 and the position will remain open until filled. EO/AA.

    • Postdoctoral position at ALS

The Advanced Light Source Division (ALS) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory offers a postdoctoral position related to material characterization using advanced x-ray microscopy techniques. As part of an aggressive R+D program, the ALS has commissioned three ptychographic soft x-ray microscopes capable of spectroscopic and tomographic imaging. Research will be focused on exploiting the ultra-high resolution and spectroscopic capabilities of these microscopes to investigate problems in the material sciences.
