Previous XAFS Conferences
The series of XAFS Conferences until 2000 (XAFS11, Akoh) has a tradition over about two decades while more recent tradition is once per three decades. It is also a tradition that in the EC meeting during the conference period, the future conference in six years is selected by voting after presentations by organizers. Since six years ahead is difficult to foresee, criticism focused on the selection of conference sites. During the conference period of XAFS16, the EC felt that the proposal guideline and deadline information have not been specified enough to allow fully community input and postponed the site selection by one year. The deadline for proposals to host XAFS16 is Sept. 1, 2-10. See proposal guidelines available by Oct. 1, 2009.

Previous conference locations are indicated in the world-wide map and blowup of Europe. Three conferences were held in NA, eight in Europe and three in Asia.
